π₯ Turkey Cooking Safety
Deep-frying a turkey? Read this first!
π Fry outdoors only β on a flat, non-combustible surface, away from anything that can burn.
π Thaw and dry completely before frying β ice + hot oil = explosion risk.
π Never overfill with oil. Follow the manufacturerβs fill line.
π Turn off the burner before lowering the turkey into the fryer.
π Keep kids and pets at least 3 feet away.
π Have a Class K or ABC extinguisher nearby β never use water.
π’ Safer option: use an oil-less electric fryer or bake the turkey.
π³ Kitchen Fire Safety
Most Thanksgiving fires start in the kitchen β stay alert!
π‘ Stay in the kitchen while cooking.
π‘ Keep towels, packaging, and dΓ©cor away from heat.
π‘ Wear short or fitted sleeves to avoid clothing catching fire.
π‘ Turn pot handles inward to prevent burns.
π‘ Keep a lid nearby to smother small pan fires.
π‘ Plug cooking appliances directly into wall outlets β no extension cords.
π―οΈ Decorations & Candles
A cozy glow shouldnβt turn into a fire.
π£ Use flameless candles when possible.
π£ Keep open flames away from curtains, dΓ©cor, and kids.
π¨ Smoke Alarms & Emergency Prep
Seconds count in an emergency.
π΅ Test smoke alarms before Thanksgiving Day.
π΅ Install alarms on every level and near bedrooms.
π΅ Make sure everyone knows two ways out of each room.
π΅ Learn the PASS method for fire extinguishers:
PULL β AIM β SQUEEZE β SWEEP
π If a Fire Starts
Act fast β stay safe.
π΄ Oven fire: Turn off the oven, keep the door closed.
π΄ Stovetop fire: Turn off the burner, cover with a lid β never water.
π΄ If the fire spreads: Get out, close doors, and call 911 from outside.
π΄Buy a fire blanket and keep it nearby when youβre cooking. A blanket rated for kitchen fires is best!
